The Advent of Christ - A Devotional Collection
The Advent of Christ, A Devotional Collection
I am so excited to share a collection of Advent Devotions that several members of our church have written.
Advent is the time preceding Christmas Day, a time to prepare our hearts and minds to focus on celebrating the birth of Jesus (The First Advent) and look toward that glorious day when He returns (The Second Advent). The Word “Advent” comes from the Latin word “adventus,” which means “coming” or arrival.”
The coming of Jesus as a baby in a manger.
The arrival of Jesus, the King and Savior of the World.
Advent is the anticipation of the coming of Christ to the earth and a proclamation of the sufficiency of Christ through a season focused on expectant waiting. It’s a time for the intentional remembering of God’s promises, as well as a time of preparation for that second coming. We celebrate the birth of Jesus and the hope we have in Him. We reflect on the mystery of the Incarnation, of the truth that God the Father sent His one and only Son to earth, fully man and yet still fully God.
Advent is an opportunity for us to look past the trappings of commercialism, consumerism, materialism, busyness, and overwhelm of Christmas that the World tends to focus on and instead be purposeful about keeping Christ at the center of our celebrations.
Our hope and prayer is that these daily devotions over the next 24 days will encourage you to reflect on the beauty of what that first Advent represented, as well as the fact that we are still waiting for the second Advent ... the day Jesus returns.
May these short devotions bless you this Advent Season.
