Pursue - Day 1
Pursue...Day 1

Do you ever wonder about the power of prayer? Have you ever questioned if God hears you when you call out to Him? The mystery of it, disappointment when prayers are left unanswered, busyness, distraction, fear, worry, pride, control, doubt, and uncertainty about whether we’re “doing it right " are all what might keep us from having a consistent and rich prayer life.
But the truth is that God desires us to grow close to Him in relationship, to seek Him, draw near, and abide in Him. He wants us to trust Him.
He longs for us to pursue Him by pursuing prayer, pursuing His Presence, and pursuing His Will.
Like any other relationships we have in this life, things will not come easily if we don’t talk to Him. That’s simply what prayer is: a conversation with God. Too often, we either complicate the matter of prayer or minimize its importance. The same can be said of the spiritual practice of fasting. God simply wants us to trust Him by completely surrendering to Him.
Prayer and our redemption are closely woven together. When we read in the Bible about prayer, we see that the basis for it rests in the finished work of what He’s rescued us from. Because of what Jesus accomplished on the Cross, we have total and complete access to the Father. He desires for us to know Him better by speaking to Him daily.
Oswald Chambers wrote in his book My Utmost for His Highest,” We look upon prayer as a means of getting things for ourselves; the Bible idea of prayer is that we may get to know God Himself.” Chambers also taught that “prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.”
Our goal and hope is that you will join us in pursuing God through prayer and fasting in these next 21 days. We believe we each have a heart’s desire for God’s will and purpose in our individual lives and in the church body of Ignite Wesleyan. By going to Him in prayer and surrendering to Him in fasting, we trust that God will do a mighty work in and through our church.
“So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.” Ezra 8:23
Prayer Prompt: Pray that God will guide you over the next 21 days, both in your prayers and in how you should practice the discipline of fasting.
