The Advent of Christ - Peace in Troubled Times

Peace in Troubled Times

By John Baggett
“I have told you these things so that in me, you may have peace.  In this world you WILL have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world!” John 16:33 (KJV)

In the King James Version of the Bible, the word "peace" appears 429 times. Peace…tranquility, harmony, security, prosperity, and well-being. In these troubled times, it’s not easy finding any of those things.

The red letters in John 16:33 say: I have told you these things so that in me, you may have peace.  In this world you WILL have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world!

The great country music singer Lynn Anderson sang: “I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden. Along with the sunshine, there's gotta be a little rain sometime.”

As we look around, there’s more than a little rain. It seems the storm is raging in all directions! Where, oh Lord, is thy peace?

As Christians, we understand that real peace will happen when we are with Jesus in Heaven, in His presence, with the Believers and the Saints. When the Prince of Peace returns, there will be peace on earth. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace”…at long last.

Until that Glorious day, we turn to Jesus and Pray for peace in war-torn places, in America, in our communities, peace in our Church, in our politics, in our homes, and in our families. We turn to Him -  Jesus, our refuge and our strength who understands our pain, our fear, our desire for peace.

What about today in these troubled times? Brothers and Sisters, we can find peace in Prayer, in nature, in music, and in volunteering. We can find great peace in the forgiveness of others and ourselves! Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” (John 14:27). Halleluiah!
